English

Using global active equity mutual fund holdings, this paper shows funds allocate less capital to countries with higher electricity intensity. The effect weakens where renewable penetration and environmental policies are stronger, indicating investors weigh both energy dependence and adaptive capacity. Higher electricity intensity also predicts weaker subsequent performance and lower investor flows, highlighting energy-transition adjustment costs in global capital allocation.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters

In the global GX context

The paper adds to transition-finance scholarship by showing that country-level energy-transition adjustment costs are priced into global equity allocations, complementing TCFD/ISSB disclosure frameworks that seek to make transition readiness visible to investors. It suggests disclosure of energy intensity and adaptive capacity has real capital-allocation consequences.

📄 Abstract(原文)

ABSTRACT This paper examines how global energy transformation influences international portfolio allocation through country‐level energy characteristics. Using global holdings data of active equity mutual funds, I find that funds allocate significantly less capital to countries with higher electricity intensity. The effect is weaker in countries with greater renewable energy penetration and stronger environmental policies, suggesting that investors consider both energy dependence and adaptive capacity when allocating capital. Further analyses show that higher electricity intensity predicts weaker subsequent performance and lower investor flows. Overall, the findings highlight the role of energy‐transition adjustment costs in shaping global capital allocation.
