English

This study builds a Sharia-based ecological accounting framework by integrating environmental cost accounting with Islamic environmental jurisprudence. Using bibliometric mapping, 12 expert interviews, grounded theory, and expert validation, it proposes five components: ecological cost recognition, Sharia-based ethical classification, governance integration, reporting/disclosure, and assurance. It shifts Islamic sustainability accounting from symbolic disclosure toward auditable, cost-based ecological accountability.

In the global GX context

This paper contributes to global disclosure scholarship by proposing a cost-based, auditable ecological accountability model rooted in Islamic jurisprudence, offering an alternative to TCFD/ISSB-style disclosure that often stops at narrative reporting. It enriches the debate on recognizing ecological degradation as a measurable corporate obligation, relevant to CSRD and natural capital accounting.

📄 Abstract(原文)

This study reconstructs ecological accounting by addressing a critical gap in sustainability accounting: existing CSR and ESG disclosures often report environmental responsibility without recognizing ecological degradation as a measurable corporate obligation. The study integrates environmental cost accounting with Islamic environmental jurisprudence to develop a Sharia-based ecological accounting framework for sustainable corporate governance. Methodologically, it combines bibliometric mapping, critical literature synthesis, semi-structured interviews with twelve experts, grounded theory coding, and expert validation. The bibliometric analysis reveals weak intellectual integration among sustainability accounting, ecological economics, and Islamic environmental governance. Interview findings reveal that CSR practices are often symbolic, with ecological costs are externalized to communities, ecosystems, and future generations. The proposed framework operationalizes ecological accountability through five components: ecological cost recognition, Sharia-based ethical classification, governance integration, reporting and disclosure mechanisms, and assurance and verification procedures. This study contributes by shifting Islamic sustainability accounting from ethical disclosure toward cost-based, auditable, and governance-oriented ecological accountability.
