This empirical study analyzes factors influencing household adoption of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in China, based on a survey of 352 households. It finds that young, middle-aged, well-educated married individuals are the primary buyers, with vehicle specifications, comfort, and charging speed being key concerns. Daily operating costs matter more than purchase price or subsidies. Intelligent functions and infrastructure indirectly affect decisions through home charging convenience. The study proposes a tripartite collaboration model among state, businesses, and households to support low-carbon mobility transition.

📄 Abstract(原文)
With the Chinese ambitions of the dual carbon, the new energy vehicles (NEVs) are a strategic automobile of effecting the green transformation of the household transportation. Still, there is sound development of the macro NEV market accompanied with micro-level household consumption uncertainties. This research is an empirical study of the policies based on the results of a questionnaire survey of 352 households, with a focus on policy perception, economic cost, and technological anxiety, and environmental attitudes as factors in determining household consumption choice of new energy vehicles. The results indicate that the fundamental consumer target of NEVs is the young and middle-aged married people, who are well educated. Specifications and comfort of vehicles become one of the factors determining the NEV purchases among households, and the driving experience and charging speed bring up to be the main concerns. Consumers are concerned with the daily operating costs and the secondary role is played by purchase prices and subsidies. Intelligent functions and infrastructure of the population do not have any direct impact on buying decisions; rather, their impact is indirectly transferred through the convenience of house charging. In this regard, this work suggests a three-party collaboratory model: the state must introduce specific infrastructure building and classifiable incentives; businesses must focus on the implementation of technology and maximum use of experience; households must be able to make rational consumption choices by evaluating the cost-benefit analysis and environmental responsibility. The study offers decision support on a micro level to support the transition of households in the green mobility direction and developing the transportation sector with low carbon.
