English

A mixed-methods study on integrating organic textiles with circular economy models in the U.S. fashion industry. Organic apparel cuts production-stage environmental harm, but benefits are substantially amplified when combined with reuse, recycling, and lifecycle extension. The authors call for coordinated policy reform, infrastructure, and consumer education.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters

In the global GX context

Adds to the global sustainable-fashion literature that increasingly feeds into Scope 3 supply-chain disclosure and CSRD-style due diligence, though it does not engage TCFD/ISSB frameworks directly. Useful as sectoral evidence for textile value-chain decarbonization.

📄 Abstract(原文)

The fashion industry ranks among the most resource-intensive and environmentally damaging sectors globally, contributing significantly to carbon emissions, water consumption, and textile waste. In recent years, two sustainability strategies have gained momentum: the adoption of organic apparel, produced using natural fibers without synthetic chemicals, and the implementation of circular economy practices designed to reduce waste and extend product life cycles. Despite their individual benefits, these approaches are often pursued in isolation, limiting their collective impact. This study explores the potential of integrating organic textiles with circular economy models to drive systemic sustainability within the U.S. fashion industry. Employing a mixed-methods methodology including quantitative data analysis, qualitative interviews with industry stakeholders, and in-depth brand case studies—the research reveals that organic apparel significantly reduces environmental harm at the production stage. However, its environmental benefits are substantially amplified when coupled with downstream circular strategies such as reuse, recycling, and lifecycle extension. The findings highlight the need for a coordinated, cross-sectoral approach involving policy reform, infrastructure development, and consumer education to mainstream this integrated model. The study concludes with targeted recommendations to facilitate a unified, sustainable framework for the future of fashion in the United States.
