Cities, vital economic and population hubs, are both major drivers of climate change and vulnerable hotspots, underscoring the need for urgent action. Despite increased funding needs, significant financing gaps persist, hindering urban climate initiatives, especially in developing countries. Exhibiting significant vulnerability to the multifaceted impacts of the climate crisis, Indonesian cities simultaneously face challenges within the realm of innovative climate finance. While private finance offers potential, governance and regulatory complexities impede its efficacy. This chapter aims to examine Indonesia&s;s urban climate finance landscape using mixed methods, including focus group discussions (FGDs) and national plan analysis, to identify Indonesia&s;s challenges in maximising its climate finance, alongside the potential opportunities and lessons from global best practices to build a robust climate financing ecosystem. Key strategies include aligning national-subnational efforts, expanding innovative financing such as regional green bonds, and building local institutional capacity. This research offers practical solutions for overcoming financing hurdles, providing a roadmap for cities, particularly in the Global South, to effectively advance climate action.
