English

This paper examines predictive AI models as instruments of corporate sustainability in energy efficiency and waste management. It incorporates AI's own electricity and water footprint, proposing a 'net balance rule': a model is justified only when physical savings exceed its added footprint. Set in Brazil's new regulatory context (National Solid Waste Policy, emissions trading system, Climate Plan), it identifies organizational prerequisites—reliable measurement data, management integration, skilled people, external verifiability—and discusses algorithmic greenwashing and access asymmetry between large and small firms.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters

In the global GX context

As global disclosure frameworks (ISSB, CSRD, SEC climate) demand verifiable climate data, this paper's 'net balance rule' and emphasis on external verifiability offer a timely framework for assessing AI's role in corporate sustainability. It also highlights algorithmic greenwashing risks and access asymmetry, relevant to just-transition debates in both developed and emerging markets.

📄 Abstract(原文)

This article analyzes the use of predictive artificial intelligence models as an instrument of corporate sustainability, focusing on two operational fronts, energy efficiency and waste management, under a double requirement of analytical honesty: examining what the models actually deliver, beyond discourse, and incorporating into the balance the physical footprint of artificial intelligence itself, whose electricity and water consumption recent literature has begun to quantify. The research, qualitative, documentary and bibliographic, situates the question in Brazil's new regulatory environment, in which the National Solid Waste Policy, the Brazilian Emissions Trading System and the Climate Plan convert sustainability from voluntary commitment into priced obligation, and examines documented predictive applications: in energy, demand and load forecasting, predictive maintenance of motors and climate systems, and process optimization; in waste, generation forecasting, intelligent collection routing, computer-vision-assisted sorting and waste valorization within the circular economy logic. The results systematize the net balance rule, a model is only justified when the physical savings it produces exceed the footprint it adds, and the organizational conditions without which the tool does not deliver: reliable measurement data, integration with management, prepared people and external verifiability of the numbers generated, a condition that the regulated carbon market will make decisive. Finally, the article discusses the risk of algorithmic greenwashing, the green dashboard without corresponding physical reduction, and the asymmetry of access between large companies and small businesses, proposing that artificial intelligence policy and climate policy operate as a single ecosystem of incentives for verified prediction.
