India&s;s pursuit of a sustainable energy future is marked by both significant advancements and persistent challenges. The nation has made commendable progress, with renewable energy capacity reaching 209.44 GW by December 2024, accounting for 45.3% of its total installed capacity. However, the transition is impeded by several barriers. Financially distressed distribution companies (DISCOMs) struggle with mounting losses and inefficient billing systems, hindering their ability to sign new power purchase agreements. Additionally, India&s;s complete reliance on imports for critical minerals like lithium and cobalt exposes the sector to global supply chain disruptions. Infrastructure challenges, including inadequate transmission networks and land acquisition hurdles, further complicate renewable energy deployment. Policy inconsistencies across states and regulatory uncertainties add to investor apprehension. To navigate these complexities, this study employs the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) to systematically identify and prioritize the obstacles in India&s;s renewable energy transition. By integrating data from official reports, technical studies, and expert opinions, the research offers a nuanced understanding of the multifaceted challenges. The findings aim to inform policymakers and stakeholders, providing actionable insights to accelerate India&s;s journey toward a resilient and sustainable energy landscape.
